De Keyrel Racing honored to be part of memorial benefit ride!!!
On Saturday October 18th, De Keyrel Racing was given a great opportunity to be involved in a benefit. We were contacted about two months ago about being at the benefit, and decided then that we would be there. We started to hit up the De Keyrel Racing sponsors to donate items for the benefit. There were many of the sponsors that jumped in and sent products for a silent auction, along with many others that donated. Altogether there was a great amount of stuff donated for raffles and the silent auction. It was great to see so many people coming together.
The benefit was planned by Frank,Kerry, Ashly, Andrew, Kelly and Frankie Barna and held at their motocross track called the Barna Compound. The benefit was held for one of Franks close friends and a fellow riders family.
Billy Engstrom passed away last November of a heart attack. Ever since then, Frank Barna had been wanting to do something for his family. Billy’s son Jake continued to come out to the Barna Compound and ride his motorcycle. Every Fall, Frank would do a ride party at the Barna Compound. This and every ride at the Barna Compound was an invite only. Frank decided that this year for the Fall ride party they would open it up to whoever wanted to come and have a memorial for Billy. Word started to spread and more people jumped in to help. A group of guys got together and purchased Jake a newer motorcycle. They gave it to him the weekend before the party and told him that Frank and himself would do the first lap of the day. (There is video of this on FB at The Barna Compound page.)
On Oct 18th the Barna Compound Billy Engstrom Memorial ride took place and was a great success. There was food, riding, Red Bull, tractor rides, mini donuts, and lots of close passing action with over 150 riders. Over 450 people came to the event raising funds to help and support the Engstrom family.
[There are pictures, videos and more info on FB at the Barna Compound page.]
De Keyrel Racing was honored to be asked to be a part of this great event. GOD Bless

Brainerd MN for the last round of CRA races for 2014
Friday practice started off good on the team Worldwide Machining and Welding Yamaha R6. I was doing the same pace as my brother Kaleb. It was sprinkling out at the start of practice and started to rain after lunch. The front straight at Brainerd International Raceway gets a little sketchy when its wet, because there is one little line on the straight that has grip. We decided to only run one session after lunch. I was ready and wanted to save my rain tires for the races. The weather looked like rain for Saturday.
Saturday, first race up was the MWSS race. I got a pretty bad start, so I put my head down and passed three riders on the outside of turn 1. I passed two more riders on the outside of 2. I was running in ninth going into turn 3. I kept pushing and worked my way up to 4th. It was a great race and I was happy with 4th. HWSS was up next and I was looking forward to racing against the 750’s on my WWMW R6. I got a great start and was running in fourth place. Going into turn 3, I could feel the rear end moving around. I continued to notice it, so I pulled off the track after turn 9 to get it looked at. Better to be safe, then sorry! When I got back to the pit, they figured out the suspension knuckle had a bunch of slop in it. They did not have the parts, so I would just have to ride through it.
The next race of the day was MWSB. I got a mid-pack start, so I started pushing immediately. I was passing lots of people in turn 2 and by turn 9 I was in 3rd. I continued to push, but I could not get the job done to finish second. It was still a great feeling to put my Worldwide Machining and Welding R6 on the box.
My fourth race of the day was HWSB. I got a good start and was up front. I started to feel my bike pulling me backwards on the long straight and could hear a jumping noise. Again, I had to pull into the pits. The team found that the chain had wore out and was eating away at the sprocket. There were very few teeth left. The team did a great job getting a new chain and new Vortex sprockets on before my next race (MWGP). I had been struggling all day on my starts and this race was the no exception. I got a bad start and started passing people. I pushed hard for a fourth place finish. Right after this race it started pooring rain. The WWMW team prepped my bike for the rain. This would be the last race of the day for me. I wanted to end the day with a win. Everyone was hesitant in the full wet conditions, so I got a great start. By turn 3, I was in the lead and starting to pull away. I pushed a little to hard into turn 8 and my backend stepped out. I got high sided off the bike and hit the ground. It was not the way I wanted to end my day or the season. I pushed as hard as I could every race and ran with a pretty fast group, so I am happy with where I am at right now in my learning. I have to thank John Anderson for letting me race his Yamaha R6. Otherwise, I might not have been able to race at all this year. Thank you John and team Worldwide Machining and Welding.
After the races Saturday night, my Grandma Marsha got a room at a waterpark hotel to celebrate my 15th birthday. My birthday was the Monday before, but we were at NJ Motorsports Park with the AMA and Yamaha Champions Riding School. It was a blast and a great end to a season.
Looking forward to 2015.

Last CRA Race of the 2014 season!
For the last CRA race of the season we decided we would run the TOBC logo in Honor of Jon and Frances Couch who had just passed away in a plane crash at VIR. At the AMA Pro Races they always treated me like family.
Brainerd started out on good note with me going winning the first race of the day which was MWSS. Then in HWSS I got a good start and was leading. I hit false neutral going into turn 9 on the last lap. This causing me to dropped back to third. I pushed as hard as I could through the final turns but ended up third.
The next race would be UNLSS where I would be racing my 600cc in the 1000cc class. I got a good start and was running in 4th. I made two quick moves and never looked back. I ran in second all race for the leader had gotten to far out to real back in. My fourth race of the day was MWSB. I was leading the field into turn 5.
The rider that was in second came straight in and T-Boned me. Never even attempted to turn. The rear loss grip when he hit me and then regained grip which through me and the bike up into the air. My dad came out right away to try to get the bike ready for my next race which was in one race. There was just to much damage to repair in time. I was signed up for 9 races that day and after 4 I was forced to watch. I focused on watching my brother and trying to help him for the rest of the day.
Then after all the races we got to go to my Grandmas hotel and go to the water park to celebrate Mason 15th Birthday!

LAST ROUND OF THE AMA PRO ROAD RACING SERIES!
The 19 hour trip started off as soon as I got off work at 4:00 pm Wednesday night. We drove all the way through the night and still had 6 hours the next morning. We arrived at the track at around 3:00pm Thursday.
Then Friday morning I visited the local hospital and brightened up some kids days!
Saturday started off with qualifying 1 and I ended up 12th.
There was on and off sprinkles all race I just paid attention to my grip levels in certain corners so I didn’t crash. Coming up to the half way point I got passed by two people and I was going to try to counter back but right then and there the rain came. I was going around turn 6 which is a very fast right hander and the rear just lost grip. It bucked me up out of the saddle and quickly got it back together and went off track a little bit but didn’t crash. So I finished the race in 6th but they go back the lap before the red flag so I finished 9th.
The weather for Race 2 was beautiful. The sun was shining and it was just an all out race! I started 8th and got a great start. It was the last race of the year so just went for it. I started making moves quick because I didn’t want to get dropped by the lead group. I made my way passed some riding and found myself in a battle for 3rd! We went back and forth till about 3 to go. Then I got in front and stayed there till the final lap. He passed me going into turn 1 and I couldn’t pass him back before the finish without pushing him out of the way. So I ended up 4th.
I had an awesome season this year for my first whole year In AMA Pro Racing! I battled with the front runners that have been in this class for many years. I ended up fifth in the 2014 SuperSport Championship and missed 4th by one point! Looking forward to a great 2015 Racing Season.

De Keyrel Racing heads to BIR for one last ride before the AMA Pro Racing round at NJ Motorsports Park
Zars ( Zalusky Advanced Riding School ) was holding an event this last Monday. My dad and I decided to make the 2-1/2 hour drive North to get in on some last minute testing. We hit the road at 5:00am on Labor Day, stopped to grab some breakfast and we were off to set up at the track.
I had not rode at a Zars event in sometime and have only been able to make it to one CRA event so far this year, so it was great to ride the BIR competition course. We had an opportunity to talk to friends and meet new ones. I worked on different things all day, but most important was passing quickly and getting away. I wanted to make sure my pace was up heading into the last round of AMA Pro Road Racing at NJ.
Just before lunch they had a race that Zars calls the “SHOOTOUT”. I had signed up for this because it would be a great opportunity to get some laps in with no traffic. I got the holeshot running into turn 2. Mid corner in turn 2, Pat Stewart made the pass on me with the power of his 1000cc motorcycle. For those of you that do not know, turn 1 and 2 at BIR are the fastest turns in the USA. Pat ran hard into turn 3 and the race was on. I settled in behind Pat and started to push up the pace. I tested him to see what areas my 600 was faster. I set up my game plan and completed it just as planned. I patiently waited until the last lap and pushed into turn 4, made the pass on the outside in turn 5, and finished pulling ahead in turn 6. It was a great race for the spectators to watch and I had a blast.
At the awards presentation, it was great to see them honor Jim Wiles. Jim is the local Dunlop Tire representative and track pastor. Jim goes over and above to help racers stay on the track and to teach them about tires. No matter what brand of tire you run Jim is willing to help. This is why the Dunlop brand is so strong in this area. I have to give a huge thank you to Jim myself for all the tires he has broken down for me in preparation for the AMA Pro Racing Rounds.
Thank You Jim
We had a great lunch provided by the Zars crew and then it was back on track for more sessions. At the end of the day, the Zars crew even had it set up to have Nick Campbell of Steve Diamond Elements taking vanity pictures on the drag strip. I thought this was a great idea for most trackday riders would not get this opportunity otherwise. Thank You to Shari Novack for covering the cost of my track day and to Jessica Zalusky for putting on such a great event.
The track day ended at 6:00pm. We then loaded up and made a quick stop to bring Jim Wiles to dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings for unmounting all my tires in preparation for NJ. We then hit the road for the 2-1/2 hour drive home. I am excited to get to NJ and finish the year on a strong note. It will be great to have my whole family together at the NJ round for only the second time this season.
If you can’t make it to the next AMA Pro Road Racing Round at NJ. Make sure to tune in at www.FansChoice.TV

De Keyrel Racing at two different tracks on the same weekend. Splitting the team up for the weekend.
Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd MN
Friday, Practice started off good, I was running 1:46’s throughout the day. After getting used to the bike, I started to lower my times. I had made up a lot of my time with corner entry speed. Lots of the time I was losing was through turn one and two the fastest parts of the track. I wasn’t fully pinned, so I started working on being fully pinned through those turns and started dropping time. By the end of the day of practice, I was doing 1:40’s.
Saturday, First race of the weekend was Middleweight SuperSport Expert, I got a great start and was in a great battle with Kyle Ohnsorg and Brian Hebeisen. We battled almost every lap of the race until Brian pulled a little gap on Kyle and I. I ended up getting 4th place. Next race of the day was Heavyweight SuperSport, I got a decent starting in forth following Aaron Anderson. Aaron pulled a little gap and Kyle pulled a gap in the lead, I finished 3rd. After lunch in the second race, I started the race and pulled in on the first lap with a clutch problem. I missed the next race Heavyweight Superbike, because we had to switch the clutch. After getting the new clutch in, I had Middleweight GP. I got a good start right behind Jordan Imrie. He pulled a gap on me after a couple of laps. Kyle and I battled the rest of the race and I finished 2nd. Heavyweight GP was next. I started the race of in second got passed by Aaron on the second lap and by then Jordan had already pulled a gap on Aaron and I. Aaron and I battled and then Aaron pulled a gap. I finished 3rd.
Sunday, It was wet in the morning, so for Middleweight SuperSport I had to run rains. I started off the race in first, and by the end of the first lap I had a 20 second lead. I kept making the gap bigger every lap and I won my first Expert race. In Heavyweight SuperSport, I started off in second and stayed there the whole race right behind Aaron. Middleweight Superbike, I started off in second behind Jordan. I got passed by Justin Ebnet and Brian. I followed them for the rest of the race and finished 4th. In Heavyweight Superbike, I started off in second right behind Jordan. He pulled a little gap and stayed in the same spot the rest of the race. I finished second. In Middleweight GP, I got a great start and was running in first. I battled with Jordan for the whole race until he ended up passing me on the last lap. I finished second. In Heavyweight GP, Aaron Anderson and I battled the whole race. On the second to the last lap Aaron passed me in turn one. I tried to pass him in turn 3, but it didn’t work. My next chance was going into the joker, so I tried it and it worked. I finished second.
I had a very successful weekend and have to Thank: My Crew Chief- my MOM, my grandpa & grandma De Keyrel , uncle Ryan and Chris, grandma Marsh, John Anderson for giving me a great bike to ride, Jim Wiles at Dunlop Tires and the CRA for allowing me to race.

Summit Point West Virginia
The trip to Summit Point Raceway began with a 17 hour drive from our home in White Bear Lake Minnesota. When we finally arrived at summit point. There was a track day going on. My dad and I went out for a walk to see if we knew anyone. We were standing on the front straight watching and Jon and Scott from TOBC came over. Jon asked if I was riding today and who I was racing with for the weekend. I told him we were just watching today and than I was going to get my bicycle out and pound some laps after the track day was over. This way I could learn the track a little for Saturday/Sundays racing. Jon asked if I wanted to ride one of there 600’s. He said get your gear on. You might as well ride. If your bike you are riding in the endurance is not going to be here till Saturday, ride ours to get some riding in. It was a nice offer so we thought we better take advantage of it. It would be a great idea to get some time on the track because I had never been to Summit Point before. I got 3 sessions of practice in on Friday on TOBC’s 600. Huge thank you to Jon Couch, Rick Matheny and Scott Harwell for giving me the opportunity to ride Friday! Also had a ton of fun with the TOBC crew on the Go Karts Friday night!
Saturday was off and on showers all the day. I got 5 laps in practice and I was still trying to learn a new track. I had one race Saturday. I ended up finishing 5th in the Unlimited SS race on the ZX10. It was kind of spotty showers and I think I took it a little too tentative for the actual conditions but I kept it on two wheels. That was the main thing because the endurance race was tomorrow!
Sunday was looking to be a better day in terms of weather. Once the sun came up the track was pretty much dry and ready to go! We had a little bit of practice and then the 3 hour endurance was on! I got a good start and was running in 2nd but there was a red flag first lap. I went back to the pits and got focused for the restart. I was running in fourth the first lap then quickly made a passes to put me in second. I did not want the leader to get away. I made the pass for the lead on lap 3 and never looked back. At the start of lap 10 the bike started to act up. I was going down the front straight and the bike kept violently shaking from front to back. It started to become really hard to down shift and the power was cutting out. I had to pull the clutch in further and further each time just to get the shift. I had no idea really what was going on. I thought the clutch was going or something with the electronics was acting up. It was a really hard decision to make but I knew I had to pull in and let the crew check the bike so we did not do further damage. Calvin adjusted the clutch and reset the electronics to see if that made a difference. I went back out and ran two more laps. It was still doing the same thing. I came in the second time and Calvin Martinez the bikes owner got on to see if he could figure out what was going on. Calvin would go out. Run 10 to 12 laps come in, we would try to clean out the tank with a magnet for Calvin knew it was fuel related. Calvin ran the next 61 laps riding than pulling in. Riding than pulling in. It was a long day with the issues. We ended up finishing 9th out of 11 team in our class. After the race we put all the fuel into one container. Calvin thinks we got bad fuel and is going to have it tested. He wants to make sure the bike is 100% for the next endurance race. Thank You to Calvin Martinez for letting me race with him on his Kawasaki ZX10.
