KALEB DE KEYREL WINS HIS FIRST EVER HARE SCRAMBLE!
I have never raced a dirt bike in the woods before and I had a small break in the MotoAmerica series, so my buddy wanted me to go try a hare scramble.
A hare scramble is a race through the woods. A motocross track over tires, log pits, wood piles and other obstacles they decide to throw in! The race is also a dead start so you have to start your bike, then go!
I got off the start in third place, which was good, because the first part of the race was dusty and not optimal for visibility. I got myself into the lead and never looked back.
I tried to keep a consistent pace through the woods and go as fast as I could on the moto track. I finished lap one and had an amazing pit stop on lap two, which kept us in the lead. The pit stop was at the 1 hour mark in the 2 hour race and I was still feeling good.
I had a comfortable lead for most of the race. I just focused on being consistent and tried not to make any major mistakes. In the end, my plan worked. I ended up winning the race for 250B and the B overall.
Huge thank you to all my amazing sponsors who support me in every aspect of racing!

Kaleb De Keyrel struggles through Road Atlanta.
After our trip to COTA we made a short drive over to Three palms mx park to ride motocross for the day and meet up with the one of our friends who is the RedBull Rep for the houston area!
After that we made the trip to Jay Newtons house. We arrived at his house Monday night. Tuesday morning we went over to Colin Edwards Texas Tornado boot camp!
We got to meet Valentino Rossi and see him ride at the awesome track Collin has!
Then we made our way to Road Atlanta! Practice started off ok. I had never been here so I had to try to learn the track quickly.
I worked hard to try to learn the track and find the best set up. We had very little dry track so I was not sure of the dry setup I had choosen.
I knew it needed work in certain areas but I went out and pushed as hard as I could. We ended up 9th in race 1 and I ran 4 secs faster a lap with that set up. We were getting closer but still not there.
Race2 was a wet race we gridded up and got ready to go racing. It started pouring rain! MotoAmerica sent us out for the warm up lap and made a good decision to hold the race and wait for the rain to stop. There was rivers running a cross the track.
Unfortunate for me and probably you if you were watching on www.FansChoice.TV it took about 2 hours for the rain to stop. Then we were back racing!
It was a fun race but I played it way to safe and ended up 12th. I came out of COTA and Road Atlanta currently sitting 7th in points and I’m looking forward to getting to Road America.
Back to some tracks I’ve been to before so were not starting from scratch and trying to race the best riders in America! Off to VIR next.
Even though I think we did alright with what we had. I feel I can be up towards the top 5 range and be pushing and battling with these faster guys! Thank You to our sponsors for making this season possible:

Kaleb De Keyrel has a strong finish at COTA!
Cota started out great, we got everything set up, then I went on an hour road bicycle ride with MotoGP rider Bradley Smith to warm up and get stretched out from riding in the van for 17hrs!
After that, I went to the local children’s hospital with a few friends!
I painted a picture of me in front of Garrett Gerloff and had some fun with it while we were there!
In practice I was feeling good! It was taking some time to get the track down, because the track really didn’t have much flow to it. It was a fun track to ride and in the wet it was going to be awesome!
The race was looking to be dry/wet so we all rolled out on slicks, but the minute we stopped on the grid to line up for the race, it started to down pour! We had a plan to be ready to change tires on the grid, including tools, tires and a rain helmet, if needed.
MotoAmerica made an excellent decision to temporarily hold to wait to see if it the weather would pass. As stated in the rules at the three minute horn, the race could be declared wet. This gave us three minutes to change tires and be ready. With our preplanning we made it in time for the sighting lap. We ended up putting rains on and luckily we did!
It was coming down like crazy in some parts of the track and fairly clear in others. I just road at a very consistent pace and made sure I did everything the exact same lap after lap.
In the rain one simple mistake can cost you the race, so you have to make sure you are consistent! Which is exactly what I did and finished 5th place in my first ever MotoAmerica SuperSport 600 race!
After the race, we got all packed up and headed to the same place we eat after every single MotoGP. Fogo De Choa! We met up with Murry and Jenny from Australia!
Also met some new friends from South Africa! This place has amazing food and you can meet some pretty awesome people too!
Overall COTA was an amazing time and I had a ton of fun! Can’t wait to share what happens next, as we make our trip to Road Atlanta…

De Keyrel Racing tests at COTA!
The first day was mainly spent trying to figure out gearing and set up. It started off as a rainy morning and wasn’t looking like it was going to be a very nice day.
About halfway through the day though, the track was dry and I got a ton of laps in and started to learn the track.
We ran one of our old worn out motors and I wasn’t too focused on lap times just wanted to get a good feel for the track! The track was difficult to learn and was not what we originally expected it to be. I thought because COTA was a Formula One track that it would be super big and flowing with wide, sweeping corners, but it ended up being really tight with lots of challenging sections.
The second day also rained in the morning and then it began to dry up. We got another beautiful day! In the first dry session of the day, I was going down the back straight and somehow my front fender ripped right off! (showing in the picture above) All the bolts were still in tacked.
I then came in the pits and realized the steering dampener bolts had ripped out of the side of the air box! We got all that sorted out and got back into the action. We finished the day out with some more solid laps, then packed up!
We headed to GN Gonzales to see their store for it was on our way.
We were heading to Barber Motor Sports Park so my brother Mason could get in his first ride of the season! It was a Sport Bike Track Time event and it was awesome as always.
It was a great couple days of riding and I am so glad we got to go to the COTA tire test and show our support for the awesome new MotoAmerica series!
I got to meet all the new broadcast announcers Colin Edwards, Jonathan Green, and Christy lee! Overall it was good weekend and I can’t wait to see you all there April 10th-12th for the race!

About De Keyrel Racing
De Keyrel Racing has been racing since 1984. We have raced everything from motocross, snocross, drag racing(sleds), karting, bmx, downhill GS/SL and road racing. Needless to say, the need for speed and competition is in our blood. My father, Don De Keyrel, started it all with my brother Alan and I. We would go to the motocross races every weekend as a family. Now it is my family racing with my two sons (Kaleb and Mason). Soon to be adding Levi to if he chooses. We started out in motocross when Kaleb was 5, racing locally and nationally. In 2007, we started working with a ministry at the motocross and road races. In 2009, we went to road racing full time with the CMRA. Our goal was to be a positive safe family environment in the pits. During the 2009 season it was nothing to see 15 kids under the De Keyrel Racing endurance team tent. We will continue to race as a family and show other racers that people don’t find GOD after they are famous. That they have always had GOD in their life and he is the one who made them famous to spread his word. GOD BLESS

Kaleb De Keyrel had an awesome season in his first full year of AMA Pro Road Racing consistently finishing in the top five. With podiums at Barber and finishing the season up with a 5th in the championship only missing 4th by one point. Kaleb received the AMA Spirit of Tommy Aquino Award and was runner up in the Road Racing World Young Guns competition. Kaleb is building momentum and is ready for 2015. He has been training hard and has already accomplished a ton for only being 17. In 2014 Kaleb took the championship in the Central Roadracing Association (CRA ). Early on Kaleb showed great promise and had tremendous success as a motocross racer. This was the ideal training foundation for his move into road racing in 2009. Kaleb started on the Honda NSR50R. He then started his progression up to Honda RS 125, Moriwaki MD250H and the YAMAHA R6. Kaleb has twice been invited to the Red Bull Rookie Cup tryouts in Spain, as both a 13 and a 14 year old. He continues to train hard and is currently one of the youngest professional road racers today. Look for big things out of Kaleb De Keyrel in 2015!
