De Keyrel Racing’s First trip to Barber Motorsports park.
The Trip started off with a 17 hour drive to Barber Motorsports Park. My dad and my grandpa Lonnie were the drivers on this trip, so my brother and I could get plenty of rest for the best track day I have ever been too. When we got there Friday morning, we went into the Barber Vintage Museum for the very first time and it was amazing! There were tons of motorcycles, it was a great experience.
When we finished at the Museum, we had to wait for the car guys to finish up, so we could get our wrist bands to get in the gate. We got everything set up and ready to go for Saturday, then went back to the hotel to get some much needed rest.
Saturday Morning started off with some hotel breakfast, then we went straight to Barber for the first day of riding. I started off in the morning just getting a feel for the bike and working on body position and apexs. I hadn’t ridden since September, but I was not going to let that hold me back. I got up to speed and was running very close lap times to Joey Pascarella.
I felt great for the first time on the bike since last fall. Elena Myers was also there, but only got a couple of laps before she had a crash and broke her pinkie. Saturday was great and Sunday would be even better. Sunday, I started off a little slower than I was running Saturday, but I picked it back up in no time. There were a lot more people in the advanced session on Sunday and I got a lot of great passing experience, but unfortunately not many clear laps. Overall, I had a great time on my first trip to Barber Motorsports Park. The facility was amazing and so was the track. I would like to thank Sportbike Track time for putting on this amazing event.

2012 CRA Awards Banquet
2012 CRA Awards Banquet
Heather was taking a couple picture before we headed off to the 2012 CRA awards banquet. It was a great year and she wanted to capture it. Kaleb’s Cortech Leathers and HJC helmet were going to be on display. So Kaleb came up with the idea of scripture on the sheild to praise GOD.
Youngest Framsted Cup winner
The Framsted Cup is a race to honor Don Framsted. Don was a volunteer who passed away on a race weekend while volunteering. The race has bikes from ultra lites to 1000cc bikes. It is an invatation only race. Your lap times are based off your lap times in the throphy dash in May. It is like the turtle and the hair. The slowest racers start first and they continue to let riders go in calculated timed intervals. Mason already had a lap in before the last three riders even got to start. Kaleb was in that last three group. It was very exciting as the whole group started to bunch up in the final corner before the finish. Mason was not in that group. He won the race by 16 seconds. Making him the yougest Framsted Cup winner.
CRA Top Ten Experts
They are alot of very fast racers in this picture. If you think there is not alot of compitition in the CRA. Look up a couple of the racers in this picture. Kaleb finished second for the year. Congrats to Shane Fletcher on the #1 plate.
Mason wins Ultra Lite Super Bike Championship
Mason started out the year with the CRA not allowing him to race. He had to do the new riders school. Than they allowed him to only race a couple of races so they could watch him. He was given no points for his finishes. Mason still managed to win the CRA Ultra lite Super Bike Championship and was the overall Ultra Lite Champion

CRA September 2012
12 yearold Mason De Keyrel wins the framsted cup
Every year The CRA ( Central Roadracing Association ) hold the Framsted race in honor of Don Framsted. The race is set up off of your time you ran in the throphy dash race. The racers are sellected and the grid is set. The slowest racer goes first than the next so many seconds later. It is all timed out so all racers come acrossed the finish line at the same time. This year the race was won by 12 yearold Mason De Keyrel. Congrats Mason
Saturday Races- Sprints- Kaleb
First up was MWSS. Kaleb had a bad start and was running about 5th. He pushed hard and managed to get a 3rd place finish out of it. Next up was HWSS. The field took off and made it 3/4 of a lap around and the red Flag flew. All the racers were pulled into hot pit and waited. They went out for another hot lap to warm up tires. On the restart the clutch went on Kalebs bike. He finished the lap and came into the pit. There was one race between Kalebs next race. His crew did a great job and got him back out on the track. Kaleb would be racing his B bike the rest of the day. UNLSS would be a tough race for Kaleb with all the 1000’s on track. Kaleb road great to a 8th place finish. Kaleb road hard all the rest of the day with 3- seconds, 2- thirds, 4th, 6th, 8th and a DNF.
Sprints- Mason
Masons day is easy to sum up. First in his class in all three races. Mason did not have it easy though. There was an expert on a very well built Moto3 bike with a built 450 motor. Mason kept him honest all day but came up short. In the process Masons lap times just kept coming down. Awesome Job Mason. Four wins for the weekend.
Sunday 5 Hour endurance
Kaleb was asked to race with Team Worldwide Machining and Welding. Owner John Anderson had had one rider back out. Than another get sick the morning of the race. The team and plans were changing fast. Kaleb was asked to fill in on the team. The only origanal member that was planned for the race that was left was owner John Anderson. As the pit was getting set up plans were being changed to work with the new team. The plan was a rear tire after 2 hours a front at 3 hours and a rear again at 4 hours.
Kaleb runs 3 hours of the 5 hour
Kaleb started the race and the plan was for him to run until the fuel light came on. We were think it would come on about hour and fifteen minutes in.
Kaleb got a great start and was running second. One of the GP4 teams was leading the way. The fuel light came on at 58 minutes.
Here is a link to a video 4 laps in.
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.527539093929299.137392.100000196394260&type=1#!/jerryanton3
Kaleb finished the lap and signaled he was coming in. Team Worldwide did a fuel only stop. Pat Stewart was the second rider on the bike.
Pat Stewart runs 44 minutes on cords
Kaleb back on for the third stint
Pat came in after 44 minutes as he was running on cords. The Worldwide crew had a great stop with Fuel and a rear tire. Kaleb would again ride until the light would come on. Plans had changed for pit stops. Each stop would require fuel and at least a rear tire. Kaleb rode consistant 1:44’s all day. The third stint was coming to an end at the one hour mark. Kaleb signaled he was coming in. The crew set up for fuel a front tire and a rear tire. John Anderson would be the next rider.
The pit stop went ok. The crew fueled fast. Got the rear tire quickly. The stop was going great until it came time for the front tire change. No one brought the front tire stand over the wall. It was a minor clitch and John was on the track.
Kaleb backout for the final stint
John Anderson rode a 35 minute stint. John came in for fuel and a rear tire. Pat went out for a 40 minute stint. Team Worldwide pitted for the last time with fuel and a rear tire. Kaleb went out to finish the last hour of the race. With five minutes to go Shane passed Kaleb to put Team Worldwide down one more lap. Kaleb was going to have none of that. The next lap around Kaleb had taken the lap back. Everyone on the wall went krazy. When they came around for the white flag Kaleb was still ahead. Shane was right there ready to punce. On the last lap coming out of turn ten it was Shane with Kaleb on him. They crossed the line with Shane, the third place team getting put a lap down and Kaleb. It was a great race. Team world wide finished 1st in class and second overall.
Thank you
Thank you to John Anderson of Team Worldwide Maching and Welding for letting Kaleb be on your endurance team.

Friday
The weekend started out with Friday practice on the competition course at Brainerd International raceway. I was running good lap times and was having a lot of fun! In turn 8 I was even dragging my elbow. Friday practice was a Blast! Mason was up to speed and was almost at his fastest laptimes on the short course at BIR.
MTB
After practice Rob Pretts decided he wanted to be a kid again. So we went for a little MTB ride. We did a lot of wheelies and had a great time. Rob went over the bars on his bike doing endos down a hil. So we decided to see who could wheelie all the way over the bridge. I had done it five times and Rob and Mason still haven’t done it once. We decided to go race around the Go Kart track. We did a warm up lap. Mason went to make a pit stop and It was time for Rob and I to plan how the race was going to play out. Our plan was to draft Mason till the last straight then it would be a sprint to the finish line. The race starts and we all sprint to Turn 1 (going about 10mph) we fly around Turn 1 and Mason is starting to gap Rob and I. So I reel him in. Then he cuts me off. Makings me slam on the brakes almost high siding. Meanwhile Rob almost T-bones me! But we had to put that behind us because the race was on and the last sprint was approaching. I would have to take the lead and hold Rob off till the finish line. That is exactly what I did and with a big wheelie across the finish line. I would be Victorious. Well Rob, Mason and I had tons of fun and maybe that could be a new tradition for Friday nights at Brainerd? After that we went to bed Because a big day was on the horizon. The 3-hour endurance was Saturday.
Saturday Sprints
Saturday morning I got up and went for a run. Stretched out and prepared for my day while my dad unloaded the bikes from the trailer. I have to give him a huge Thank You for everything he does for my racing. My first race was Middleweight supersport Expert. I got a great jump and was in second place but not for long. I would come pass Scott Stall on the brakes going into turn 3. I was clear of Scott and charging on. Before the exit of turn three Scott hit my rear wheel and I was down. I had to go to the infirery to get checked out. When they brought me back to the pit. John Anderson, Robert Pretts, My Grandpa and my dad were all working to get my bike ready for the next race. There was only one race in between. I changed leather, Gloves and Helmet. Rob ran and got a tech guy and I was heading out for the Heavyweight supersport race. I got another great start and ended up putting the crash behind me. I fought hard and finished in 2nd place. Next race after lunch was Unlimited Supersport and I ended up taking 4th.
Mason
Mason only had one race on Saturday Ultra light race 1. He made the best of it. Mason got the hole shot and was pulling away. He was beating all of the experts also. It was so fun to watch. Mason held them all off to take First overall. Awesome Job Mason.
3 Hour Endurance
Our endurance team ( World Wide Welding and Machining ) would be the only team that would be competing all on the same bike. John Anderson had built a bike just for endurance racing. He had increased the compasity of the gas tank and built a fresh motor for this race. We would have Shane Fletchers bike as a back up.
I did the first stint and rode till the fuel light came on. I made it 1 hour and 15 minutes. We were leading the entire race and our class this far. For the other teams had pitted around the 45 to 50 minute mark. Next it was Drew See’s turn to run some laps. He ran 50 minutes and we brought him in to put a new rear tire on and have Shane finish. When Drew came in we had some difficulty with the rear quick change. The rear caliper had hung up in the slot so the axle would not tighten. John made a quick desision to have Shane jump on his own bike and go out. The team fixed the rear quick change and had the sign out for Shane to pit after he had only completed one lap. The way the race was set up is you had to fill one bike completely before you could send the second bike out. Shanes bike did not have a quick fill so the least amount of laps he would do would minimize the last pit stop. For Johns bike would have enough fuel to finish but Shanes bike would not. Shane desided he was not coming in. Team World Wide Welding and Machining was still leading for the overall with Tony Kasper chasing him down. Shane was on an Yamaha R6 and Tony was on a Suzuki GSXR 1000. The race ended up being RED FLAGGED and we were the winners according to LIVE TIMING. Shane had made the right desision to stay out. After they accounted for the laps lost from pitstops we ended up first in class and 2nd overall. The endurance race was tons of fun and a Huge thank you to John Anderson for letting Shane, Drew, and I race your bike.
Sunday
Mason and I started the day off with a run to warm up. Did our streching and geared up. The first race of the day was MWSB. It was one of the Greatest battles I have had in a long time. I was battling Jake Zemke. I rode a really nervous race just because I knew a Daytona 200 winner was right behind me. We battled back and forth. He ended up stuffing me going into turn 4 on the second to last lap and I ran wide. I had to close the gap again and passed him on the brakes going into turn 3. Holding Jake off the rest of the lap. This was one of the greatest races of my life. I ended up with the last podium spot. The rest of Sunday was really good I got a 2nd in HWSB, 3rd in UNLSB, 3rd in MWGP, 2nd in HWGP.
Mason had two races on Sunday. The first race of UL Mason again beat all the experts with a first overall. In the second UL race of the day. Mason battled with another Novice racer for first. I could not believe how smart Mason was riding against the larger 450cc motorcyle. I was one pass after another. All comming down to the last corner. Mason was in first amd they bumped coming out of the last corner. This was just enough for the 450 to beat Mason to the line. He finished second but rode an unbelievable race. Great Job Mason.
The last race of the day UNLGP was another great race! I started off in third place and I as chasing down Shane Keavney on his CBR 1000. Every single lap on the back straight he would gain 20-30 bike lengths on me and I would have to make it up on the brakes going into turn 3. On the last lap I just told myself stay as close as you can to him going down the back straight because I knew if he got too big of a gap I couldn’t pass him. So I just left the throttle wide open going though Turn 1 and 2 every lap I could feel my rear tire sliding its way around Turn 2. So at this point I am in desperation to keep up to Shanes 1000. My back end was sliding around Turn 2 at 160 mph and I said “maybe now I Crash” in my head like Valentino Rossi in Fastest (thought it might help). The Dunlop tire is an awesome tire. I was right on him coming down into Turn 3 deep on the brakes. I knew if I pass him to early he would counter attack so I followed him around till turn 6 and held it wide open coming into turn 6 right up the inside. This is where I knew I would run into trouble, the run down into 7 and 8 I knew that 1000 horsepower could come right up the inside down into 7 and it almost did. I seen Shane’s front fairing coming up the inside into turn 7 but I worked way too hard to have it end like that. So I held a super tight line with my knee in the grass and would take 2nd place in Unlimited GP. I know there were not any wins this weekend but there were plenty of lessons learned and great memorys that I will take with me into my future.

Yamaha Champions School at Miller Motorsports park
Yamaha Champions School at Miller Motorsports park
The trip started off with a 21 hour drive to Salt Lake City, UT. This trip would be Mason, Our Grandpa De Keyrel and myself. My Grandpa pushed hard and we got to the track Saturday at 11:00am. The school didn’t start till Monday. So Right away when we got there Mason and I were going to pedal around and see who was at Miller. I jumped on my mountain bike and the seat is broken in
half. Not the best way to start off a trip. So I took the seat off my road bike and put it on my mountain bike. We went around and didn’t know anyone.
Go Karts
At 5:00pm the go karts were open to the public so Mason and I had to try out the Miller Motorsports park Go Karts and track. My grandpa bought us tickets to ride three times and we were going to ride them once saturday, once Sunday, and once Monday. We get in the Go Kart. All ready to go and the guy accidentally ripped two of my tickets off. I guess we would just have to ride them twice Saturday and once Sunday. The Go Karts were awesome!!! I had such a great time and I had the fastest time out of the group too!!
Sunday
The next day Mario Alvarez arrived and so did Shane Turpin. Shane called up to the front desk to get us a basketball so he could show off his skills. Shane won the game of Horse but his skills and his titanium legs would fail him in the game of two on two. Eventually the Heat got to us and the basketball was put away for good. Well, lets just say we are all better at riding motorcycles than NBA superstars. After the B-Ball game we found out that the biggest pool in Salt Lake City was right next door. We had to go check it out. Mario, Mason and I went to the pool and did some backflips and front flips off the diving board. Then we would have to hit the Go Karts one more time before the school started. The pool, the Go Karts were a great time but riding tomarrow would be even better.
3 Day School
The YSC started in the museum. It was great to see all the people I had meet at earlier schools.
To the track
Next we headed to the track to watch an instructor ride and Nick give instruction on what he was doing.
Classroom
Time to ride
We had a great start to the school on Monday. I really worked on body position and hitting my
apex’s. I learned a ton the first day and hoped to do the same the second day. I rode with Shane Turpin, Scott Russell, Ken Hill, and Nick Istach. After day two was done I dicided to go on a 25 mile up hill road bike ride with Scott Russel, Shane Turpin and Ken Hill. Well we got 6 miles out from Miller and my rear derailuer gets caught in my rear wheel and completely ripped the rear derailuer right off the bike. Lucky Shane Turpin had his bright white mechanic gloves on because he turned my bike into a single speed in about 30 mins and I was pedaling back to miller. I have to give Shane a huge THANK YOU for getting me back to miller.
Instruction
Next day we got up and went for a run then we rode till noon and headed to Blackhawk. Over all it was a great trip and I had a lot of fun with my Grandpa and Mason. Thank you Grandpa for driving us all the way to Utah and getting us to Blackhawk on time!
