De Keyrel Racing heads to Barber Motorsports Park for AMA Pro Race!
Kaleb De Keyrel is finally old enough to make his AMA Pro Racing debut. With his Birthday just two days after Road America ( June 4th ). Kaleb gets his AMA Pro Racing license on his 16th Birthday.
I am excited to be back out racing with all my friends again. I raced with a lot of these guys at the Indianapolis MotoGP race in 2010 and also in USGPRU. It will be fun to see how everyone has progressed on the track and how I stack up against them. We went to Road America to learn as much as we could and get to know the AMA staff. It was an awesome experience and everyone we meet from the AMA Pro Racing staff was great to work with. We are on the road now heading to Barber. We are stopping to pick up Chaplin Ray Rizzo. He is going to be spending the weekend with us. It is going to be an awesome weekend. Looking forward to getting on track. Praise GOD and our sponsors for making this weekend possible.

June 2013 CRA Write up
The weekend started off with friday practice. All of friday practice, we worked on suspension. We were working hard to get the new Penske Suspension set up. I was trying to get comfortable with how the bike was working, so I could go faster.
Saturday, the first race of the day was Middleweight Supersport. I was running the same set of USA DOT tires I ran for two days at Road America and all day friday for practice. I took the hole shot and lead the race to the finish. It was great to get my first win of the weekend. The next race was Heavyweight Supersport and I went out and won that too. In the UNLSS race there was a red flag. It was caused by another rider running into to the back of me. I stayed up and ended up 5th with the race over on the red flag. Middleweight SuperBike, I was on a new set of Dunlop USA Slicks. The suspension set up I was on for this race felt great. I lead the race start to finish again. Heavy Weight Supersport, I was on the same tires with a new suspension set up again. We rode a completely different set up every race and logged all the information. I was running out front with a huge lead and the clutch went out right as I was passing the flagger giving me the white flag. If only it would have lasted 1 more lap. I missed the next Unlimited Superbike, because my dad, grandpa, and Jason Bryant were hard at work on getting a new clutch back in my bike. I have to thank them so much for getting me back on track for the Middleweight GP race. They put the clutch in and I went out and won the Middleweight and Heavyweight GP races for them. The last race of the day was Unlimited GP, I finished 2nd. Saturday went great. It was hard racing with a different suspension set up every race. I never new what the bike was going to do when I got out there. We planned to continue to test all day Sunday and keep notes. Huge Thank You to Scotty, Meghan and Mark at Trackside Suspension & Engineering for all the suspension help.
Sunday started off with two wins in Middleweight Supersport and Heavyweight Supersport. Unlimited Supersport was tough against the 1000s and great riders, I pushed hard to come in third. The next Middleweight Superbike and Heavyweight Superbike I ended up in a battle with another rider. We pushed hard finished neck and neck both races, but I would finish 2nd in both. The next race was Unlimited GP and I went out and rode hard for a second place finish. Middleweight and Heaveyweight GP races I found myself in a battle with the same rider. We were so close in all of our races and these two were no different. In the Middleweight races, we battled and he came out victorious. Heavyweight GP race it wasn’t going to turn out any different, I got around him on the last lap and took the win.
The last race of the weekend was Unlimited GP. I ran hard against the 1000cc bikes and finished second. The weekend went great and I ended up with seven 1st places, seven 2nd places, a third, and a fifth. Nobody could believe I was still on the same Dunlop USA DOT race tires as RA, friday practice and into Saturday races. I ran some of my fastest times on Sunday on my second day of Dunlop USA slicks. I now have a new Penske suspension set up with lots of notes and it is working really good!

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
Friday practice went really good. The bike felt great and we didn’t have to make any changes to the bike. My lap times were around 2 minutes. As I got more used to the track my lap times were getting faster and faster. By the end of the day on Friday, I had my times down to a 1:55. Practice went great and I had a good time to work off of for the rest of the weekend.
Saturday in the ULGP 1 race. I started off third row all the way over to the right. I got a pretty good start and was in 4th place. Running through turn one, I moved into the draft of the guy running 3rd. Going into turn 2 I drafted around both of them. I was running in 2nd with third place all over me. I held him off to finish second over all and first in the novice class. ULGP 2 race, I started in the same grid spot. I got a better start got right into second. We battled the entire race. It was so much fun. I ended up second overall first in class.
Saturday in the ULGP 3 race, I got a good start. Worked my way to second by turn three. Then passed for the lead going into turn four. We battled hard all race, it was going to come down to the last two corners. We were working our way through lap riders. Splitting them as we raced to the line, I ended up in second place by .1000 of a second. It was a fun race. My dad said he would take the blame for that one. He said,”I should have mounted my transponder farther forward.”
The Framsted cup. This was my race, after all I was the defending Champion. The race is set up so all racers cross the finish line at the same time. You are set in rows by the times you run. Each row is released at a different time. I was starting in row 6, I knew I had to pass everyone ahead of me and not let anyone pass me to win. I started passing a lot of people each lap. Then I got passed by a guy on an SV, I new I had to keep up to him. We were both running through traffic and I tried to chase him down. I ended up second, but gave it my all.
Sunday, ULGP1, I started second row to the right. I got the hole shot and was battling hard with Jak on his 450. On the last lap, Jak passed me in turn 6 and then lost the rear. I won the race with first overall. ULGP2 race Sunday, I got the hole shot and started pulling away. By the end of the race, I had an 8 second lead on second place. It felt good to beat all the experts again. ULGP3 race, I battled for the first lap and the then pulled away a little each lap. By the end of the race, I had a 7 second lead on second place. I got 1 place over all beating the experts again. It felt great. The weekend went awesome. I had a lot of fun racing the Moriwaki. I finished my final weekend on the Moriwaki with 5-1st and 1-2nd place. My dad told me after, he had been waiting for me to say the tires were slipping. They were the same Dunlop Slicks I started the season on last year. Look out 600cc grid, here I come!!!

2013 AMA PRO ROAD RACING POSTER
Here is a sneak peek at De Keyrel Racing’s 2013 AMA Pro Racing Kaleb De Keyrel poster:
Thank you to Nick Campbell with Steve Diamond Elements for creating this awesome poster!
Thank You to all our sponsors for making the 2013 De Keyrel Racing season possible.
De Keyrel Racing heads to AMA Pro Racing at Road America.
We arrived at Road America Wednesday night at 11:30 pm. Thursday, we got moved in at 10:00am in the morning. We parked the rig in the upper paddock and set up the canopy for the long weekend to come. Tech was open, so we went and got the pass for the Zuma and asked questions we were wondering about. Thank you to Richard and Mark at Cortech for the tickets and lining up the great parking spot.
Friday, I got up and went to the riders meeting with my dad and watched morning practice. Then, I went for a 20 mile road bike ride with Nick Mcfadden at lunch. We had a great ride through Wisconsin with some major head wind. We got back just in time to watch more practice.
After Friday’s activities, Larry Pegram made a track out of chalk for Levi and his two daughters.
Saturday, I got up ready to watch a great day of racing. I ran around on the Zuma, watching all day, learning as much as I could. Larry Pegram was parked in the upper paddock right next to us. We got to hang out with him and his family all weekend. I watched the Superbike race 1 on his TV in his pit. It was a day full of great racing!
Sunday, was another great day of racing, but the day started out with a bad crash at the start of Supersport race 2. I was watching on Triumphs TV in their pit. When I saw the crash, I ran out to the pit wall. There, I saw broken bikes and people laying everywhere. That was the worst crash I have ever seen at the start of a race! I have been praying for Tyler Linders, Ricky Valdez, Caroline Olsen and everyone else involved. I hope they have a speedy recovery and get back out on the grid. The racing in Daytona Sport bike was great with Jake Gagne taking the win away from Cam Beaubier, ending his winning streak. There was also a great finish in Supersport race 2 with Corey Alexander, Stefano Mesa, and Tomás Puerta. The finish was insanely close!
I had great days of testing at a STT event on Monday and Tuesday. The weather was beautiful both days and I got a ton of riding in. There were a lot of people on track, so I had to make a lot of passes. It was tough to get a clean lap. Monday, Trackside Suspension & Engineering stayed around to work with us on different suspension set ups. We road a different set up every session and logged in all the information. I think Monday was a great success. Thank you to Mark, Scotty and Meghan for taking the time to work with me. I turned 16 on Tuesday, and it was great to spend it with my family riding. I had a great birthday weekend at the track! Thank You to Richard Harris of SportBike Track Time for allowing us to ride.

Road America AMA , STT track day
All the AMA races had great battles. I wheelied my mountain bike all over watching in different areas. Trying to check out lines that the pro’s were using. I saw the Super Sport crash on the start of the second race and was praying for all those affected. We have two friends of ours still in the hospital from that crash. Hoping for a speedy recovery!
STT track day
I started out running three minute lap times. As I got used to the track and my braking points my lap times started to drop. After getting a couple session in, I was getting into to the high two minutes. At the end of the week end, I was at 2.57 lap time. Unfortunately, my riding time was cut short due to my chain getting caught between the rear tire and the swing arm. I had a great weekend watching the pro’s race and getting to ride at Road America. I’d like to thank Richard Harris for letting us ride with SportBike Track Time.

CRA May Weekend
The weekend started out with Friday practice. Friday was the nicest day of the whole weekend and practice went great. I was on pace for Saturday and ready to start racing.
Saturday:
Saturday started off with morning practice. TSE ( Trackside Suspension & Engineering ) had made some suspension changes on the bike. I liked the changes so we knew we were moving in the right direction. TSE continued to make small changes all through practice and the races. The first race of the day for me was MWSS. I noticed on the warm up lap that something was not right with the front tire. I rode conservative knowing I had tire issues but manage to get second. Next race was HWSS. The Dunlop tires were working great and everything felt awesome. I won the race. It felt good to get the first win of the weekend so early and I knew UNLSS was next. There are ton of guys who went up to 1000’s this year. I knew it would be difficult to stay with them but if I could get the draft I would be right in it. I got a good start and was in 4th on the first lap. I made two quick passes to get into 2nd in the race. Shane had quit a lead by the time I made my pass’s. I put my head down and did my best to real him in. He rode great and I ended the UNLSS race in second. The next race was GP3 and 4. The GP3 started a wave behind the 1000’s. I took the hole shot and started to focus on the 1000cc riders in front of me. I set them up to pass as quickly as I could. By the end of the race I had finished third overall and won the 600 class.
Sunday:
TSE had made another suspension change over the night. I rode it in practice and it was feeling really good. TSE and I had just a few more little things we worked on during the day.
The first race was MWSB. I was feeling great and ready to race. I went out and on the first lap the clutch cable pop out of the lower bracket. I had an amazing battle with Chase for the lead. Chase made a little mistake in turn 5 causing him to high side. Starting the day out with an issue and still getting the win felt great. The next race was HWSB. I took the hole shot and never looked back. This was my second win of the day and it felt great. UNLSB was next and I knew I was going to have to work. I pushed hard and ended up with a second. I won the next two races MWGP and HWGP. Going into the last race which was UNLGP. I knew I had to get a good start. It would be my last chance of the weekend to try to stay with Shane. I needed to get up front and behind him right away. I started out in 4th and just waited patiently till I could make the pass. I made the first pass on the brakes into turn 12. Then the next lap I passed two people going into turn 6. I expected them to make a move back but I pulled away and finished 2nd in the last race.

BIR 5-10-2013
Friday practice: I had to learn the new braking points and how much speed to carry through the corners. I started out doing about a two minute lap time. I quickly started to improve my lap times as I started to trust the new track surface. I was feeling great and was ready for the races to start on Saturday.
Saturday I raced in the ULGP class against 450 motards and a built Kawasski Ninja 300. I got a great jump and was running in second. I stayed in second until the forth lap. I was watching his lines and learning where I could pass. On the fifth lap I passed into first and led the rest of the race. I won my class and also got first overall in the race. I had been battling with the Experts and bet them. I was excited and ready for Sunday.
Sunday was race two and three of the ULGP class. I started out in third overall with two Experts in front of me. I sat in third until the half way point in the race . On the fourth lap I passed into second. Then made the pass to first. We battled for first led a couple times each lap. Then on the last lap I was in second coming into turn 10 and 11. A lapper got in the way, so I couldn’t get by. It was a fun race and I finished first in class and second overall. ULGP race 3 was my last race of the day. I wanted to win the overall in this race. I got an ok start and was running in third. I stayed back in third until half way. I past into second. On the last lap I drafted into 1st. He got back passed me in corn four. Then passed him in the carousel. I was leading on the last lap going through the last two turns and we can up on two lappets. I passed the first lapper on the left and AJ passed on the right. I was set up to go passed the last lapper in the last corner of the race on the left. At the last second they moved left to get out of the way and AJ got by on the right. It was a fun race. I ended the day first in class and second overall. I really wanted to be all the experts on the bigger bikes. It was a great weekend and I could not have done it with out all our sponsors. It was a good weekend!

Heartland Park Topeka, Kansas
Heartland Park May 4-5 2013 ( CCS Race )
The trip started off with a 7-1/2 hour drive to Topeka, Kansas. On Friday we set up the canopy on the race rig and checked in. Got ready for the first race weekend of De Keyrel Racing’s season. It was raining and 37 degrees so we did not practice. Saturday morning I got up and got ready to headed out to practice. The first practice it was freezing out. I went out and started off slow then worked my way up. I felt good with how practice went and was looking forward for the first race of the year! The GTU was the first race of the day. I went out and new if I could gap the field just enough for them to not catch my draft down the front straight I would be gone. So I did exactly that. I went out and set a good pace the first lap and won the race. The next race of the day was middleweight Superbike. I ended up second in middleweight superbike and second in middleweight GP. With getting second in the last two races it was really obvious what I needed to do in the last race, WIN! I focussed for the next race which was middleweight Supersport and did a fast first lap and won the race.
I got up Sunday morning feeling good about how yesterday’s races went. We headed to church service with Ray Rizzo of MRO. Sunday was a little different because instead of eating lunch I was lucky enough to get the chance to race in the Team Challenge. I raced for Eric Helmbech team Chesters Auto. Chesters Auto is the number one plate holder in the GTO class (1000cc). The Team challenge is a 44 lap race or a time limit of two hours.
Practice was still wet but warmer than our high temp for yesterday. I was feeling a lot more calm heading into the races on Sunday and I was really excited to get the racing underway! The first race of the day was middleweight Supersport. I went out for middleweight Supersport and did just like the day before. I had a great first lap and won the race! That was my only race before lunch. Next race was the team challenge. I would be racing my Yamaha R6 in the 1000cc class. I was not under any pressure from Eric to do good. He basically just wanted points. Eric was not even concerned if I finished. The track for the start of the Team Challenge was wet but it was no longer raining. So we didn’t know if we should use rain tires or DOT tires. With the cold temperatures we choose to go with rains. I was most comfortable with the rains for we had been running the same set all weekend. The race started off great. I pulled the hole shot and was pulling away from the pack. I had a 41 second lead till about half way. The rain tires started to wear out because the track had dried out so quickly. I pitted at lap 31. We lost the lead to Jason Farrell why we were in for the pit stop. We had no quick fill or quick change setups with us so our stop has slow. I never should have looked at the tires. After I did my pit stop my main focus was just to finish. I started putting my head down coming out of corners to push the bike up onto the meat of the tires. The tires were completely gone and at this point I just decided to ride solid consistent laps and finish the race in second. I was really happy with my finish considering I was on a 600 in the 1000cc class. I rode the best that I could under those circumstances and that is all I could do. The closest 600 in the GTU class was two laps down at the finish.
The next race was middleweight GP. We cleaned the bike and put on a set of Dunlop USA DOTs. I finished second in this race. I had some confidence issues with my tires that I should have gotten over faster. It was the first time on the DOTs this weekend. With the last race of the weekend approaching. I spent sometime getting focused and knew if I went out and rode like I knew how to ride. I would win this race. I took off and pulled the hole shot in middleweight Superbike race. I had a great first lap and never looked back. I won my last race of the day and was really happy how the weekend had gone. I feel that this weekend was really a learning experience in many ways and I will use that experience for the next race weekend.
We packed everything up and started in on the 7-1/2 hour drive. We arrived home at 2 am. Headed to bed and back up for school at 6:00am.

Heartland Park May 4-5 2013 ( CCS Race )
Saturday morning practice was awesome. It was cold and raining so no one was going out. The CCS officials ran it as open practice. I just keep working my lap times down trying to catch guys on 600’s. This was my first riding at Heartland park and I loved the track.
I only had one race on Saturday and Sunday. Moto3. With the cold and the rain all my competition decided not to show up for the start of the race. I focused on the riders in the other class to see how may of them I could keep up to. I had a blast for my first time at Heartland Park and learned allot. I am ready for the next race this weekend at Brainerd International Raceway.
