CRA May Weekend

The weekend started out with Friday practice. Friday was the nicest day of the whole weekend and practice went great. I was on pace for Saturday and ready to start racing.

Saturday:

Saturday started off with morning practice. TSE ( Trackside Suspension & Engineering ) had made some suspension changes on the bike. I liked the changes so we knew we were moving in the right direction. TSE continued to make small changes all through practice and the races. The first race of the day for me was MWSS. I noticed on the warm up lap that something was not right with the front tire. I rode conservative knowing I had tire issues but manage to get second. Next race was HWSS. The Dunlop tires were working great and everything felt awesome. I won the race. It felt good to get the first win of the weekend so early and I knew UNLSS was next. There are ton of guys who went up to 1000’s this year. I knew it would be difficult to stay with them but if I could get the draft I would be right in it. I got a good start and was in 4th on the first lap. I made two quick passes to get into 2nd in the race. Shane had quit a lead by the time I made my pass’s. I put my head down and did my best to real him in. He rode great and I ended the UNLSS race in second. The next race was GP3 and 4. The GP3 started a wave behind the 1000’s. I took the hole shot and started to focus on the 1000cc riders in front of me. I set them up to pass as quickly as I could. By the end of the race I had finished third overall and won the 600 class.

Sunday:

TSE had made another suspension change over the night. I rode it in practice and it was feeling really good. TSE and I had just a few more little things we worked on during the day.
The first race was MWSB. I was feeling great and ready to race. I went out and on the first lap the clutch cable pop out of the lower bracket. I had an amazing battle with Chase for the lead. Chase made a little mistake in turn 5 causing him to high side. Starting the day out with an issue and still getting the win felt great. The next race was HWSB. I took the hole shot and never looked back. This was my second win of the day and it felt great. UNLSB was next and I knew I was going to have to work. I pushed hard and ended up with a second. I won the next two races MWGP and HWGP. Going into the last race which was UNLGP. I knew I had to get a good start. It would be my last chance of the weekend to try to stay with Shane. I needed to get up front and behind him right away. I started out in 4th and just waited patiently till I could make the pass. I made the first pass on the brakes into turn 12. Then the next lap I passed two people going into turn 6. I expected them to make a move back but I pulled away and finished 2nd in the last race.

Friday practice: I had to learn the new braking points and how much speed to carry through the corners. I started out doing about a two minute lap time. I quickly started to improve my lap times as I started to trust the new track surface. I was feeling great and was ready for the races to start on Saturday.

Saturday I raced in the ULGP class against 450 motards and a built Kawasski Ninja 300. I got a great jump and was running in second. I stayed in second until the forth lap. I was watching his lines and learning where I could pass. On the fifth lap I passed into first and led the rest of the race. I won my class and also got first overall in the race. I had been battling with the Experts and bet them. I was excited and ready for Sunday.

Sunday was race two and three of the ULGP class. I started out in third overall with two Experts in front of me. I sat in third until the half way point in the race . On the fourth lap I passed into second. Then made the pass to first. We battled for first led a couple times each lap. Then on the last lap I was in second coming into turn 10 and 11. A lapper got in the way, so I couldn’t get by. It was a fun race and I finished first in class and second overall. ULGP race 3 was my last race of the day. I wanted to win the overall in this race. I got an ok start and was running in third. I stayed back in third until half way. I past into second. On the last lap I drafted into 1st. He got back passed me in corn four. Then passed him in the carousel. I was leading on the last lap going through the last two turns and we can up on two lappets. I passed the first lapper on the left and AJ passed on the right. I was set up to go passed the last lapper in the last corner of the race on the left. At the last second they moved left to get out of the way and AJ got by on the right. It was a fun race. I ended the day first in class and second overall. I really wanted to be all the experts on the bigger bikes. It was a great weekend and I could not have done it with out all our sponsors. It was a good weekend!
