Homestead Miami speedway!

The trip down to Homestead started off leaving Jennings GP and going to the AMA headquarters to exchange my 2014 credential. Then we made our way down to Shark Skinz to pick up some new bodywork for the 2014 season. The next stop was Sarasota, FL to stop at Donny Wrights and Roaring Toyz to get a tour of both there shops. We got to workouts in why in Sarasota. Than it was off to Palm Beach. We went to Sean Dwyers house and stayed there for a couple days. We worked on bikes and did a crossfit workout. We got to go the beach too that was really fun! Thank You to Donny and the Dwyers for opening their homes up to us.

We then made our way to Sean Prieto’s shop and went out to lunch at a really cool place right on the water called The Cove. We then made the rest of the drive down to Homestead. We got another workout in and headed to the track to sleep for the night.

We got up Saturday morning and set up and ready for practice.

I had never been to the track before so I needed all the track time I could get but unfortunately I really didn’t get that much track time because of red flags. There were a lot of people pushing and crashing. I got an Idea of where the track went and was ready for the racing!

The first race I went into turn 10 way to hot on the first lap. I had to ride around the banking. I re entered the track in 15th place and then I started to push and worked my way back up into 9th place. The next race I finished 7th and was feeling better but the lap times were still not as fast as the top 3 riders. I felt good with how tough the competition was but I still knew I could make up time in a couple areas. The third race I got 10th. I was still trying to get the set up and bring the lap times down. I talked with my dad. We made some changes with suspension that we thought would help and they did! The next race started off really good I was running in third place then a rider hit the back of my bike. The back end of my bike stepped out and luckily I saved it. I got bumped back a few positions. I finished in 7th and did my fastest lap time of the weekend a 1.28.4. That was the last race unfortunately. We learned a lot and I will brig that knowledge with me into the first round of the AMA Pro Supersport Championship at Daytona!

To wrap up the Florida trip. We had 4212 miles when we got home. Slept in the van 7 nights. Went through 2 loafs of bread, a jar of peanut butter, 2 bottles of jelly. A 29-1/2 hour drive home and I had a lot of fun. Thank You to my mom and dad for making it all possible.

De Keyrel Racing first ride of the season at Jennings GP!

The trip started off with a long drive from Minnesota to Florida. When we got to Jennings GP there were people out doing a track day. We watched them for the day and got ready to ride the next morning. Sunday morning we got everything out of the van and got it all set up for the day then started to ride!

The first session I didn’t really feel comfortable on the bike so we made some changes to get the bike set up to more where we had it last year. We were trying a new set up that I did not like the feel of. The second session I was able to start to get the “flow” again and started to feel really good. There was a lot of traffic so it was hard to get a good lap in. I was having to make 6-10 passes a lap. After lunch they had a moch race with 27 riders in it. I was fourth going into the first turn. I new I needed to be with the lead group going into turn three or they would get a lead. I just could not get by so I was still sitting in 4th. I passed quickly in 5 and started to hunt down second. I caught up but could not get around to take second. It was a fun race and great to get some clean laps in.

Monday turn out to be a great day with less people. It was really good just to get back on the bike and ride again! I got to ride with Sean Dwyer a local fast guy and AMA Pro Superbike rider. He helped me pick up some time in a couple areas.

The last session of the day was really fun riding with Sean! He was on his brand new ZX 10 and I just told myself to stay with him. I kept right on him and his draft would pull me in. It was really fun! Overall it was a great weekend of riding I felt really comfortable and it was just great to get back on the bike!

De Keyrel Racing at the Minneapolis International Motorcycle Show!

The International Motorcycle Show was really fun this year! There were a lot of cool motorcycle and all the major brands had a setup. They all had the new bikes plus there were some awesome race bikes! When we first got in. We just started making our way around the building. We stopped by the CRA both to see what they had set up. Then made our way around to all the manufacturers. We stopped by the Yamaha display. We talked with Steve the Regional Yamaha Rep and took a pictures with Jason Bryant. Jason is one of the best mechanics around this area and does a lot to help out racers. Yamaha also had Jorge Lorenzo’s MotoGP bike on display. Very cool!

After that we ran into Scott Russell. We talked to him for awhile before he went on stage.

Then we made our way passed the Honda display. We saw Jake Zemke’s race bike and the Geico Honda motocross teams bike was there also.

After Honda we made our way down and around passed Triumph. They had the Apex Racing/ Richard Harris backed Triumph of Elana Myers.

Overall, it was a great show. It had all the major manufacturers. Most of them had race bikes on display for fans to see! Very cool that our sport was represented so well. They had a stunt show going and great seminars on riding. It was a super fun time and great to see all the people from industry that we don’t get to see that often. It added to my excitement for this up and coming season.

De Keyrel Racing rides motocross. First time since 2008

As some of you may or may not know, Mason and I grow up racing motocross. I raced motocross from ages 4 to 10. Then I switched over to road racing and thats where I am today. I always really enjoyed riding motocross and It was amazing to get back out and ride!

I haven’t ridden a dirt bike since 2008 because its just to hard to do both expensive sports. I was super excited to get a chance to go back out and ride! I had a ton of fun and got to ride a lot too!

I really liked the track layout at Cedar Lake Arena and it was a great design that was not only fun but safe also. The jumps were forgiving so if you happened to come up short on one. It really didn’t matter to much. The track was fast in parts and also had some cool technical features!

Mason and I both had a great time riding motocross again and it felt awesome to get back on a bike! I really liked the KTM SX 250F and it was super fun to ride!
